The Municipal Ordinances of the City of Willow Springs define a backflow prevention assembly as "any double-check valve or reduced pressure principle backflow preventer having resilient-seated shut-off valves on both the upstream and downstream end and the necessary test cocks as integral parts of the assembly."
Properties with irrigation systems, fire sprinklers, or commercial and industrial uses have these devices installed to prevent the contamination of the public water supply. Backflow devices also use mechanisms to protect drinking water from pollutants that can enter due to drops in pressure.
The Missouri Public Drinking Water Program Regulation 10CSR60-10 requires all backflow prevention devices to be inspected and tested every 12 months. Failure to properly test and maintain your backflow prevention device as required could result in your water service being discontinued, which is also set forth in DNR regulations and Chapter 705 of Municipal Ordinances.
Backflow testing reports must be provided to the City. You may do so by providing a copy in person at City Hall, 900 W Main, or by email at wscity@willowspringsmo.com.
For more information, please contact City Hall by telephone at 417-469-2107 or by email at wscity@willowspringsmo.com.
